During the last thirty years, our knowledge of biological systems - molecules, organisms, populations, ecosystems, landscapes, the whole biosphere – has largely increased. In this period, biology has turned to be a major actor for most social matters - health, environment, sustainable development - at home, at school or at work. The capacity to understand biological concepts, processes and methods is today a quality required of any contributing member of society. « Biology for all » thus needs to be clarified, improved and developed in schools, laboratories, NGOs, administrations, communities and companies., since, over this same period, biological illiteracy has not declined.
Although biological knowledge is more widely available thanks to the media and new educational methods, although biology is always clearly present in Science Centers and Museums, the gap between researchers and the general public is constantly widening, with students showing a lack of interest for this topic, as new technologies of communication change our relationships to knowledge and practices.
Therefore, can we detect new perspectives for biology teaching ? As key issues will undoubtedly constantly shift, as research laboratories, companies, Society as a whole will have to face new needs and new challenges, what parts will biology, biology education, popularization and mediation play ? Will they shed new light on environmental, health and citizenship’ issues ? How will they contribute to sustainable development ?
From another angle, how will the needs of other innovation-producing sectors, such as collectivities and companies, evolve ? What will be important or merging knowledge to be taught and why ? What questions will students or the general public ask ? What will their relationship be to biology ? What will the best strategies, the best educational approaches be ? What about cross-disciplinary approaches ? What form will the new tools or the new roles of teachers, mediators and journalists take ? How will schools, the media and museums working alongside other social bodies, be able to increase biological awareness and culture ?
Following on from BioEd 2000 in Paris (National Museum of Natural History) and BioEd 2004 in Rio de Janeiro (Oswaldo Cruz Foundation), BioEd 2008 in Burgundy would like to address these questions through contributions based on innovations, empirical or speculative research, whose domain of application may cover a wide variety of sectors from education to popularization, from companies to universities, from NGOs to collectivities.

Conference ObjectivesThe Conference will:
ParticipantsThe Conference will be under the patronage of IUBS-CBE, UNESCO, UNEP, LDES university of Geneva, SAPIENCE,.. Scientists, educators, philosophers, and political leaders will be invited to address the key issues and set the vision for the conference. The Conference will bring together approximately 200-300 scientists, biology educators, and teacher-trainers, policymakers, business people and media specialists, as well as philosophers, theologians, and ethicists. Participants from around the world will be invited to report on their research, experiments, and practical and empirical results, and demonstrate educational materials (posters, videos, exhibits, theatre...). The Conference will be organized in plenary and parallel sessions, with exhibits of posters and educational materials. Symposia and workshops will address the following themes:

7月4号下午3:00--5:00,终于完成了本学期最后一次汇报,对colleagues的问题进行了<defense>。这是我满意的一次<report and defense>。其实,是先前那一次次令他们不满意的回答,让我重新审视他们提出的问题,去学习,学思考,去揣摩欧洲学者那特有的思维,去不断地碰撞和触摸那种特有的研究文化。其实,我感谢他们,感谢他们的尖锐和直接,感谢他们给我一次又一次的机会;也感谢我自己,痛定思痛之后,在可以不要的机会面前,终于没有选择回避!此刻,我真的有一种释然的感觉。六个月的时光,经历了很多.......,我觉得我在变,是深刻地变;我觉得我在长大,是立体地长大,因为浸泡在太多的"给养"中........
终于等到了教授的评语,他学着我的样子恭敬地用双手呈递给我,说:“Here is my appreciation to you!”。我不能完全看懂那像医生写的处方一样的法文草书。我没有像平日一样看不懂就问,因为,我觉得这时写什么评语对我已经不重要了。但最后一行字,我能隐约看清.........很感人。
当日晚上,随教授参加了Faculty的Banquet,在日内瓦湖豪华游轮上举行的Grande Fête。
其实我先前非常不想去,我有点适应不了那种太Formal的场合。但是教授一再提醒一定要去,并说这是荣誉,会有我想见的重要的人,还暗示注意着装。我不关心他所指的是什么荣誉,我觉得我见的人已经够了,再说,我也没有适合那种晚宴的服装。我十分想休息。但是我找不到不去的理由。只好给先生打电话求救。先生鼓励,要去,并以最快的方式寄来的几套时装。我选择其中的两件,搭配了一身乳白色的礼服。下午答辩的时候就穿着去了实验室,先给教授看看我这套"dress mailed by my husband",教授的眼睛有点亮,但接着又说了句什么,意思是说我会“冷”。晚上7点在船头见到教授,当他看见了从我的脖子垂到胸前的那条浅咖加银丝的长丝巾的时候,很高兴。啊,服装过关!有了信心。跟着来宾,学着教授的样子,去完成一道道程序。
在教授的引见下,我认识了一些日内瓦大学心理与教育学院历史上的重要人物。我没想到这是一次特殊的招待会,是一次奖励终身成就教授的聚会。在所有到场嘉宾的名牌中,我见到了两个东方人的名字——一个中国人和一个韩国人。不过那韩国人已经很欧化了,从头发到举止;我还是那出国前的黑发加少量但日渐增多的白发,不过长长了许多,整个一个“Made in China”。餐桌上几道法式菜依次过后,开始了别样而隆重的表彰。我身边就是50年成就奖的语言学家,她打开奖品小盒子,里面是一个信封,信封里装着许多张正反两面写的密密麻麻的卡片,那是日内瓦大学的领导和她的同事的赠言。她很动情,随即吟诗作赋。另一位受表彰的专家,站起来指挥全场嘉宾唱起了歌。教授很卖力地在高唱,我不知道那歌的歌词,只好认真地听旋律,第一段旋律过后,第二段和第三段我就跟着大声哼出并和全场一起合手打着拍子。 我一直坐在语言学家身边,感受着她那独有的魅力,她给我讲了一段又一段跟中国有关的家事。告别时,她听说我只能再呆几个月,眼中划过一丝伤感,希望能多见我这个中国人几次。我知道,这是一位了不起的女士。我真是好羡慕她!背驼了, 脚步蹒跚了,却那么光彩照人,她让年轻的学者们看到了自己的前景,而我也似乎明白了一点:大学的文化可以这样传承....... 我有点走神,我突然想起了一个怪问题: 当我退休以后,或者步履再不"如风"的时候,我是否也会享有这样的天伦? 教授的一声招呼把我从"梦"中拉回,他让我往航行中的船外看,啊!夜空中有一道彩虹!这是真的吗? 迪斯科舞曲响起,顾不了那么多,我跑出了船舱,到甲板上去拍彩虹。这时,有一个男声在叫我,好象是在喊: 嘿! 反向的景色更美丽! 我回过头,是一位高大handsome的先生,风度极好。这人好面熟!
"We met before?" 我上前问道. 他有些诧异,但接着说“You should be that Chinese!”. "Which part do you work for?" "ABCD" "Hhhh, you are Mr. S ? " "It's me!" 啊,原来他就是那大名鼎鼎的S! 不过他真人比网上的照片要漂亮多了,传说中这可是一个工作狂,平日的生活和装束很不讲究,这如何能对上号呢? “But you are more beautiful than S!” S 高兴地大笑......
我们谈起了ID,他非常的talk-tive! "I find an ID colleague, a Chinese!" 他因为一个Chinese能听懂他的“怪”理论很开心,而且,显然他也很赞同我这个中国人对他的问题的评论。他上下摸着自己的口袋,好不容易翻出一张名片给我。这时,一位女士走出来向S打招呼,S介绍说这就是M.,他的young boss. 啊!太年轻,太漂亮了!实在难以想象得出是一位三个孩子的妈妈! 也很难跟她那老辣的文章对起号来。
我们三人聊起来,笑声不断。 游轮在环绕日内瓦湖一周之后回到起点。 S and M 想早点走(M住在法国)。我们在舱外夹板上第一次告别(法国人的告别仪式是很麻烦的!)。 我也回到舱中。这时候,舞曲换成了轻盈欢快的节奏,我加入到快乐的舞者中,一起完成了一段“嘣嘣跳”,......除了口头语言,那French, 那English, 其实舞蹈和音乐是更好的世界语. 音乐声中似乎夹有喊我的声音,噢,是S and M回来了!因为外面下起了大雨!

S and M 再一次向我告别......

有人喊我,S and M又回来了! 又下起了大雨...
音乐继续...... 窗外的雨似乎小了。 S and M 起身,我们三人隆重告别...... 我送他们:“If it is raining too much, just come back to say good-bye again!” 他俩大笑 ,M说道:"Be prepared!" "Yes, I am preparing!"
S and M就是《媒体学习手册》中的两位作者。我找了他们好久。
